European semiconductor sales up 18.7% year-on-year

Based on the latest WSTS numbers,  the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA) has reported that European semiconductor sales reached $3.685bn in May 2018, an 18.7% increase compared to the same month one year ago. During the period from January to May 2018, European semiconductor sales increased by 20.1% versus the same period in 2017.

All growth figures represent a three-month rolling average.

European demand in particular for Discretes, Sensors, Logic Devices and Memory ICs remained strong in May, leading to above average month-on-month growth compared with the one percent increase of the overall European semiconductor market. Sales of application specific chips also showed positive growth in Europe compared to April.

Looking at worldwide developments, semiconductor sales in May 2018 were $38.723bn, up 21% versus the same month in 2017.

In May, the exchange rate effects were still visible but less significant than in previous months when comparing market growth in Euro and in Dollar.
