The main focus for u-blox at the recent electronica exhibition was its modules for Bluetooth low energy that allow the user to reduce energy consumption in an industrial application.

The company is offering the smallest industrial Bluetooth 5 module ANNA-B112, (6.5x6.5x1.2mm). The heart of the SiP is a powerful Arm Cortex M4 processor, containing a 512kB flash memory and 64kB RAM. The module is supported with connectivity software, supporting the BLE Serial Port Service, beacons, NFC and other roles simultaneously.

The module is supported by the ARM or Nordic Semiconductor SDK. The module supports SPI,  and  interfaces, NFC, Bluetooth, AirFuel and Apple HomeKit is also supported. The module ANNA-B112 is designed to create large-scale mesh networks to perform several applications simultaneously. The module has an open CPU so a designer can develop and embed their own application. The development environment is Nordic SDC, ARM Mbed5, and Wirepas Mesh.

Another interesting u-blox solution in the category of BLE modules is NINA-B31. Similarly to ANNA-B112 it operates with Bluetooth 5 long range. The module contains a powerful Arm Cortex-M4 processor, and combines with connectivity software, supporting SPS, GATT, beacon, and NFC for simultaneous work. This module is well suited for Industry 4.0 applications.

The high precision GNSS module NEO-M8P was featured during electronica. This module consists of the M8 positioning engine, combined with Real Time Kinematic Technology, resulting in cm-level GNSS performance. This module is well suited for autonomous driving applications, where high-precision movement is required.

The module, due to its RTK solution, results in a reduction in setup time and gives increased flexibility to the application of a module. The module operation is based on the Base and Rover communication via RTCM protocol, what enables Rover to precisely relate its position relative to the base station. The u-blox GNSS module is compatible to a variety of technologies, including WiFi, Bluetooth, UHF and cellular.
