Diodes Incorporated today announced the development of a proprietary process platform for the manufacture of next generation high voltage rectifiers. Named DIODESTAR, the process has been developed at Diodes' wafer fabrication facility in Oldham, UK and has just delivered its first device, a high efficiency 600V, 8A rectifier targeted at LCD-LED TV power supplies.

The DIODESTAR process draws on Diodes' combined expertise in both bipolar and MOSFET semiconductor technologies and is characterized by high voltage handling, soft recovery and ultra fast switching. The process will support the production of a range of high voltage rectifier products for a variety of end applications, including LCD-LED TVs, notebook and desktop computers.

Dr. Keh-Shew Lu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Diodes Incorporated said, The pressure from legislative directives and green initiatives, such as Energy Star, to improve efficiency has been building rapidly, and rectifier technology has taken a significant leap forward. The DIODESTAR process enables rectifiers that switch smoothly and at high speed, meaning designers can meet these high efficiency demands.

The first DIODESTAR product to be released is the DSR8V600, a 600V 8A rated rectifier, tailored for use as the boost diode in the power factor correction (PFC) circuits of single and dual stage switched mode power supplies (SMPS) up to 1,000W.

Optimized for PFC duties in continuous and boundary conduction mode, this family of rectifiers will offer best in class soft recovery with ultra fast switching capability (TRR<30ns), meeting the requirements of the 80 Plus Energy Star standard for SMPS. The DSR8V600 is priced at $0.4 USD in 10 k piece quantities.
