Birmingham-based cable assemblies, integrated products and logistics services provider, CHH CoNeX, has accelerated its drive into the aerospace and defence markets after securing the coveted AS9100 international aerospace industry certification.
The AS9100 certification comes after just three months – half the time it normally takes manufacturers to reach the demanding standard, and follows the announcement of a major growth strategy which includes plans to increase the company’s turnover to £21million by 2013.

In reaching this important milestone, CHH CoNeX has invested significantly in attracting new, highly-skilled people to the team and the development of best practice processes aligned to meet and exceed customer requirements.

Managing Director, Tim Hughes, explains: “Securing AS9100 certification is an integral part of CHH CoNeX’s growth strategy. In achieving this growth, we are putting in place and aligning a number of core, best practice processes across the business, which are designed for continuous improvement, waste elimination and value creation.

“By achieving this certification, we will continue to build on our strong industry track record and reputation for providing quality-assured products, services and solutions at the optimum total cost of acquisition for applications across a wide range of industries including aerospace and defence.”

AS9100 is the first global quality management standard and the most stringent certification intended to ensure consistency of quality for the aerospace and defence industry throughout the supply chain.

AS9100 incorporates ISO9001:2008 and additional mandatory requirements focussing on the quality of the product and service requirements specified by the aerospace industry.

Commenting on the achievement Dr Andrew Mair, Chief Executive of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance, said: “Having achieved AS9100 certification, CHH CoNeX is now certified as a supplier that operates to the world-class standards of the aerospace industry and relies on a robust quality management system.

“AS9100 is supported by key industry players such as Airbus and Boeing, and is highly regarded world-wide. CHH CoNeX’s commitment will further support the UK aerospace industry’s attempt to lead the way in global supply chain excellence.”

The AS9100 standard was first introduced in 2005 and forms part of the UK industry's ground-breaking supply chain excellence programme, SC21; allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to procure products with confidence from anywhere in the world.

Phil Curnock, Project Manager for SC21 at ADS Group Limited, added: “I am delighted that CHH CoNeX has obtained the Aerospace and Defence AS9100 quality standard and clearly demonstrating its commitment to the Industry SC21 programme of business excellence.”
