6WIND, the industry standard for commercial multicore packet processing software, today announced a new version of its 6WINDGate software with optimized support for the “manycore” TILEPro64 processor family from Tilera Corporation.
/> Targeted at cloud computing, security equipment and telecom infrastructure applications, the 6WINDGate packet processing software enables OEMs to accelerate their business growth through differentiated products and services, while retaining architectural flexibility across their product lines. As data and applications are pushed to the cloud and mobile applications require more bandwidth, designers of equipment for next-generation network infrastructure are required to achieve increased network performance with advanced security features. At the same time, they must support the flexible reconfiguration of networking functions and virtualized applications while optimizing system-level power consumption. OEMs also need to leverage their investments in proven, proprietary application software while retaining the flexibility to deploy that software on whichever processor platform provides the optimum solution for a specific end-product.

As the gold standard for commercial multicore packet processing software, 6WINDGate delivers a 7-10x performance improvement, allowing OEMs to develop products that achieve the best cost-performance, integration and energy efficiency for cloud and mobile infrastructure equipment. Since 6WINDGate is fully compatible with standard operating system APIs, developers can migrate their existing code and/or commercial software products onto platforms running 6WINDGate without having to redesign, rewrite or recertify the software, lowering the cost of transitioning to a multicore platform. This enables the development of a range of systems based on a common software platform, minimizing overall development schedule, cost and risk for a complete product portfolio. Already deployed by tier-one networking and telecom OEMs worldwide, 6WINDGate includes a comprehensive, preintegrated suite of networking protocols fully optimized for multicore platforms.

This eliminates the need for OEMs to invest their engineering resources into combining discrete protocols from multiple sources and/or designing custom optimizations to exploit the performance features of the processor they have selected. This allows 6WIND’s clients to accelerate their time-to-revenue by up to twelve, reaping the rewards of being early to market with cost-optimized products that offer compelling performance. “As we have been discussing for years at the Multicore Association, the promise of manycore is to provide high performance and low power.

Tilera’s processors deliver on that promise today, giving them great opportunities in data centers, networking, and multimedia applications,” said Markus Levy, Chairman of Multicore Expo. “The combination of 6WIND software and Tilera processors provides customers with an integrated, high performance and reliable networking solution that will speed customers’ time to market. Having optimized packet processing software for manycore is key for many customers in this segment as 6WIND will explain during its presentation on May 3 at the Multicore Expo in San Jose.” “We are pleased to announce 6WINDGate support for the Tilera TILEPro64 processor family, having seen strong interest in this architecture from our existing clients as well as other key companies in cloud computing, security equipment and telecom infrastructure markets”, said Eric Carmès, CEO of 6WIND.

“6WINDGate provides an ideal solution for high-performance packet processing in these applications, while eliminating the time-consuming in-house software development that adds risk to product launch schedules. These advantages contribute to sustainable business growth for our clients and are the reason that our software is already deployed by many networking and telecom equipment OEMs worldwide.”
