Swissbit AG celebrates its 10th jubilee and can look back on 20 years of experience. Founded in 2001 as the result of a management buy-out from Siemens AG, Swissbit has continually expanded its market position since then, and is now Europe’s largest independent producer of DRAM and NAND Flash-based storage products for the global industrial market.
/> Swissbit is one of a very few storage providers to focus its long-term activities distinctly on the industrial market. With its in-house product development at headquarters in Bronschhofen/Switzerland and production plant in Berlin/Germany, Swissbit’s claim is to offer innovative, top-quality storage products that meet the specific requirements of its industrial customers at a competitive price. Production capacities currently stand at six million units a year, with expansion to twelve million units planned as early as 2012. With subsidiaries in Japan and the US and a network of sales partners, Swissbit has a global presence. Besides industrial electronics, its target markets are in embedded computing, telecommunications & networks, aerospace and aviation, defense, medical electronics, automotive/transportation and casino gaming. “True to our motto of ‘Swiss precision and quality Made in Germany’, we serve the industrial market with hearts and minds,” says Tommaso Rando, CSO (Chief Sales Officer) and Vice President Sales & Marketing of Swissbit AG. “The success of the last ten years backs us up in continuing along the path we have chosen.”

The true mark of Swissbit’s storage solutions is that they meet all industrial requirements, including the highest quality and reliability, longevity, ruggedness, a substantially extended temperature range and long-term availability assured by a controlled bill of material (BOM). They also come complete with all interfaces required by industry, including CFC, SD, MMC, pATA SSD, sATA SSD, USB and CFast. For individual requirements, Swissbit offers versatile technical support that covers expert advice, extensive technical documentation, fast and flexible prototype and production delivery, and custom-tailored products with its Customization Service.

The product portfolio covers DRAM modules and NAND Flash products, as well as older technologies such as EDO, FPM, SD and MMC cards and special architectures on request. As the only producer in the world, Swissbit makes storage modules featuring “chip-on-board” (COB) technology. This enables the creation of highly robust modules of small dimensions that possess exceptional thermal properties. Swissbit’s NAND Flash products stand out through the proprietary “wear leveling” technique. The efficient and high-performance algorithms they employ permit write access equally across the entire chip, and in this way guarantee the utmost in reliability and maximum longevity. Some test methods, including operation in a real application in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 90°C and more, ensure constant quality and reliability.

“The fact that we have been able to secure a firm market position globally in just ten years is due not least to our customer’s high quality claims, which present our team again and again with new challenges,” notes Rando. “These partnerships are the creative force behind solutions that meet the current demands of our target markets perfectly.”
