TE Connectivity has developed an embedded antenna element covering all long term evolution (LTE) bands without requiring tuning. In addition, TE offers a complete product line of standard antennas that meets various customer needs. “The new Square6 embedded LTE antenna is designed for use in mobile LTE equipment, especially tablet PCs and smart phones,” says Christian Koehler, product manager at TE, “Its simple single feed layout can be adjusted to varied housing designs.”
The Square6 antenna design fits into mobile devices as thin as 10mm.

The antenna offers benefits addressing the need of modern handheld devices:

- Cost saving: Does not require additional tuning elements

- Power saving: Operates at lower power level and increases efficiency by over 50%

- Loss reduction: No losses of tuning elements or open/closed loop circuitry

- Easy to apply: Requires less engineering effort when applying its design into a mobile device

- Future proof: Supports all LTE bands

LTE is the most advanced technology in wireless networking. It can be used with several frequency bands including 900/1800/2600 MHz in Europe, 700/1700MHz in North America, and 2600 MHz in Asia. With LTE, the data rate is greatly improved compared to current 3G technology.

Antennas in mobile devices demand excellent and reliable performance at all required frequency bands, especially when the mobile device is touched by the users’ hands or is placed between the user’s head and hand during a call. TE’s Square6 antenna covers all LTE bands from 700 MHz to 2600 GHz. It offers compensation for hand and head effects.

Besides Squre6 antenna, TE offers a standard range low-profile, high-performance stamped metal, flexible printed circuits (FPC) and printed circuit board (PCB) embedded antenna solutions for single through penta band applications.

All standard antennas address the needs of a variety of wireless applications and offer several advantages such as small size and light weight, broad frequency range, minimum or no matching components required, low cost as well as eliminated tooling lead-time and cost.

The standard antennas can be easily integrated into a wide range of wireless products including mobile/smart phones, laptop/desktop computers, routers, base stations, navigation and gaming devices, IPTV, wireless alarm/security/monitoring systems, and smart grid applications.
