The RN-171 from Roving Networks is an low cost, comprehensive networking solution that includes a 2.4 GHz radio, baseband processor and a host of networking application features. Measuring 26 x 18 x 3.1mm the RN-171 is 34% smaller than its predecessor, the RN-131. Its small size and low power is perfect for embedded WiFi devices such as remote sensors and asset tracking devices.
No external processor or driver is required, significantly reducing customers integration and development effort. The output power is configurable from 10dBm to 0dBm. Multiple antenna options provide the flexibility for on-board PCB trace, chip, wire, or external U.FL connector.

The RN-171 is a standalone, wireless networking device that supports UDP, TCP, DNS, DHCP, ARP, ICMP, and HTML client. The module is an industrial (-45°C to +85°C) grade temperature range part. The hardware interfaces include 10 bidirectional IO and 8 analog inputs, UART with data rates up to 921Kbps TX, 500Kbps RX, and SPI slave with up to 2.5 Mbps data rate. The onboard hardware crypto engine supports WiFi authentication for WEP-128, WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA2-PSK (AES).
