At Gamescom 2016 in Cologne, Germany, Ubisoft has been offering visitors the opportunity to experience something completely different in the field of VR. According to Ubisoft, the 'Nosulus Rift' (presumably named as a portmanteau of nose and Oculus Rift) “has been designed as an exclusive experience for South Park: The Fractured But Whole during events” and will not actually be available for sale.

For those who haven't played the previous game, South Park: The Stick of Truth, or seen the trailers for South Park: The Fractured But Whole (just say it to yourself a couple of times...), a large part of the gameplay and storyline revolves around the character's ability to pass gas, referred to in-game as your magic attacks or farting.

When playing with the Nosulus Rift, however, these 'attacks' take on a whole new dimension. The Nosulus covers only the nose and, basically, it releases a smell to coincide with each olfactory attack that the character performs in game. Adding smell to sound and vision, this device arguably makes The Fractured But Whole the most immersive gaming experience ever.

According to the Ubisoft website: "Forget everything you’ve ever learnt about videogames and experience them in a totally new way. Nosulus Rift awakens a sense that you haven’t yet tickled."

The technology itself is a mask-shaped peripheral which features: two N-fragrant switchable scented capsules made of light aluminium which disperse different smells; Nosulus Air Pummp Burmner technology designed to spread the odour, without any loss, in a split second; an LED light-up system activated by different game actions and by the odour burners; and the electronic system which is connected via Bluetooth.
