A vector signal generator featuring frequency and level switchover times of typically 240 µs is claimed to be the fastest instrument of its type on the market. The R&S SGT100A from Rohde & Schwarz covers the frequency range from 80 MHz to 6 GHz. It is equipped with an integrated baseband generator that supports a maximum bandwidth of 160 MHz.

Using the R&S WinIQSIM2 PC software, the generator can quickly and easily deliver test signals for all major digital standards such as LTE, 3GPP and WLAN IEEE 802.11ac.

The short switching times of just a few microseconds between the various digital test signals speed up test sequences. Taking up just one height unit and ½ 19in rack width, the instrument also saves space in the test setup. In addition, the instrument has been optimised for minimum operating costs: It is available at an attractive price and consumes little power. The long, three-year recommended service interval saves money. Feature upgrades can be performed directly at the customer's location.

The signal generator is for use in production environments and in automated test systems. It delivers the necessary test signals for dependably characterising modules and RF components such as amplifiers, or for testing femtocell base stations, for example.

The instrument is complemented by an FPS signal and spectrum analyser. Together, the two instruments can be used as a mini system for testing high-frequency components at maximum speed.
