The Bird 5000-XT hand-held digital power meter is redesigned specifically for portability and ease of use in the field. Available in the UK from Aspen Electronics, this digital power meter is ideal for field service technicians and engineers who need to work in tight corners. It is easily attached to a tool belt and can even be operated with one hand.
The instrument offers VSWR, peak power, true average power, crest factor, CCDF and burst power measurements in a single, compact and rugged package. Applications are wide and varied, covering RF communications in telecoms, broadcast, medical, public safety, industrial, automotive, military and avionics sectors. Signals measured include: WiMAX (IEEE 802.16), GSM/EDGE, W-CDMA, CDMA, LTE, WiFi (802.11), HSUPA/HSDPA, TD-SCDMA, TETRA, P25, Zigbee (IEEE 802.15), Bluetooth, RFID, DVB, DMB and MediaFlo.

A range of 11 sensors, including existing Bird power metre sensors, can be used with the 5000-XT, covering directional (Thruline) power or terminating power measurements up to 12GHz. The power meter automatically detects which sensor is connected and displays the appropriate measurement screen. A locking mechanism, on the USB interface connector, avoids unintentional sensor disconnections.

An intuitive, menu-driven user interface, makes it especially easy to use, for all skill levels. An inbuilt data logging capability with 1Gbyte of memory allows for storage of measurements, ready for uploading up to 7 days later. The rugged, drop-tested design features a VGA LCD backlit display for indoor or outdoor operation. It measures 165 x 105 x 43mm and weighs just over 500g. The rechargeable, field replaceable lithium batteries deliver up to 60hours continuous operation.
