Normally, if you want to use sensors according to the IEPE industrial standard, either you need to buy an expensive oscilloscope with integrated IEPE interface or a similarly expensive plugin module. The new PicoScope 4224 IEPE has got an integrated IEPE interface, which makes it compatible to any industrial standard IEPE accelerometer or microphone, and furthermore, it has an affordable price.
The IEPE- (Integrated Electronic Piezo Electric) interface standard IEEE 1451.4 is most used for powering accelerometer sensors. However, there are several other sensor types, using this interface, such as microphones, impulse hammers, acoustic, force and pressure sensors etc.

This new scope model was designed for customers who use it for monitoring vibrations and acoustic waveforms in the field, by means of accelerometers or microphones

Accelerometers can be highly sensitive, thus such a scope with high voltage resolution is needed in order to capture just the smallest incremental changes. The IEPE sensors are powered via the integrated constant current sources.

With its BNC inputs and the standard PicoScope software, the PicoScope 4224 IEPE can also be used as a standard PC hosted 2-channel digital storage oscilloscope, similar to the regular PicoScope 4224.

The standard scope sofware PicoScope is supplied with the device.

There is a manufacturer’s warranty time of 5 years for this scope.

As an optional accessory there is a single-axis IEPE accelerometer with a measuring range of ±490 m/s2 (±50 g) available.
