World's top 5 card manufacturers and many world-leading operators use the COMPRION terminal simulator Spectro 2 for testing their smart cards according to ISO/IEC 7816, SWP and HCI specifications
Spectro 2 simulates the complete smart card interface of the terminal, including ISO/IEC 7816, SWP/HCI and IC-USB on the logical level. The tool is used for smart card and chip development, smart card protocol implementation, interoperability testing and quality assurance since Spectro 2 helps to detect communication errors before product deployment.

Launched in October 2008, Spectro 2 has been continuously updated in line with the advancements of ETSI and 3GPP(2) specifications. The tool is currently available with pre-defined tests for testing the card according to the specifications for SWP (ETSI TS 102 694-2), HCI (ETSI TS 102 695-2), ISO/IEC 7816 (3GPP TS 31.122) and CDMA2000 (3GPP2 C.S0049). The user can also set up individual test scenarios by programming the hardware directly using a Test Case API.

Thanks to the integrated trace function for ISO/IEC 7816, SWP/HCI and IC-USB, Spectro 2 offers live visualisation of the communication between a real terminal and a card. The recorded bits and bytes are translated into comprehensive content and are displayed in a user-friendly way.

“We chose a COMPRION tool for our NFC offer as it ensures conformity with the latest standardised test suites. Technical exchanges between Oberthur Technologies and COMPRION on the latest LTE, M2M and NFC technologies help create stable and reliable products”, states Stéphane Andrau, R&D Director at Oberthur Technologies.

Oliver Dietz, Senior Project Manager for R&D Telco at Morpho (Safran group) says about his work with the tool: “We have been using the Spectro 2 for development testing since 2009. One advantage that I see in the tool is that we didn’t need to program the SWP/HCI tests ourselves. However, we do have the option to create our own test scenarios using the Spectro 2 Test Case API. Moreover, we value that the Spectro 2 is always up-to-date with the latest specifications.”
