Automatic Test Equipment is widely used in the Commercial and Defence sectors to ensure fast, repeatable testing of electronic devices for functionality and performance. Cove Industries Electronics Division has been supplying specialist ATE for 25 years to customers such as Goodrich Power Systems, BAE Systems and for Mercedes/McLaren. These have included full 19inch racked systems and associated test fixtures for the Automotive and Aerospace Industries.
More recently, they have supplied some interesting Automatic Test Equipment for use with a motorised mechanical assembly, which operates on a lead screw between limit switches in a sealed chamber immersed in water.

The Cove Industries Automatic Test Equipment contains motor drive and control electronics to activate the motorised assembly, enabling the motor to be driven in both directions in either continuous mode or for a preset number of passes. Safety features include an in built timer to ensure that the system is halted and an alarm indicated if, due to a fault condition, the motorised assembly does not reach the end of travel within the allocated time interval. This ensures that no damage is caused to the equipment.

Additionally, Cove Industries have supplied Simulator ATE to test the system host control units. These units simulate the responses of the motorised assembly ensuring that the controller alarm warning system can be fully tested

The combination of the motor drive test boxes and simulator units mean that the customer can fully test the functionality of both the mechanical assembly and its host control unit in confidence at their factory before shipping for installation, as once installed this equipment cannot be readily removed for maintenance.

Cove Industries Electronics Division is able to provide a one stop shop for ATE requirements, electromechanical assembly and cable assemblies. From an outline requirement they will determine the detailed requirements in terms of standard test equipment and bespoke test fixtures. They can produce all necessary wiring, detail and silkscreen drawings in house and via their sister company Cove Sheetmetal can carry out all metalwork machining, painting and silkscreening. It is then within the Electronics Division that the wiring, assembly, test and commissioning of the ATE is carried out.
