The ATS617 from Allegro MicroSystems Europe is a three-wire differential Hall-effect sensor that combines enhanced EMC capability with a peak-detecting algorithm that provides design flexibility by offering the ability to sense a wide range of target geometries.
The enhanced EMC performance of the ATS617 allows users to optimise the design of sensor modules by reducing external component count and, in some cases, removing PCB modules. The combination of reduced component count, EMC enhancements, the dynamic self-calibrating algorithm, and the flexibility to sense numerous types of targets simplifies the design-in process for a wide variety of applications.

The ATS617 is a differential analogue Hall-effect sensor that switches in response to changing magnetic fields. In addition to the analogue peak-detecting algorithm, the device uses automatic gain control and an integrated tracking capacitor to provide accurate edge detection of rotating ferrous targets. The peak-detecting algorithm is ideal for use in camshaft applications with the ability to sense a wide range of target geometries including fine-pitch encoded targets.

In addition to the Hall-effect sensor IC, the integrated sensor module includes the back-biasing samarium-cobalt magnet required to sense ferrous targets, further simplifying the design process by removing the need to consider different magnetic circuit designs.

The ATS617 features first falling-edge detection, which eliminates the need for true power-on state sensing by the controller. The self-calibrating algorithm is highly accurate over a large air-gap range, and provides immunity to target geometries and application anomalies such as tooth-to-tooth variations, broken or damaged targets, and ferrous debris. The device is also capable of sensing encoded targets with small features, and is immune to the magnetic baseline variations seen by single-element, true power-on sensors.

The ATS617 is offered in the SG single-step overmoulded magnetically integrated package. The package is lead (Pb) free, with 100% matt tin leadframe plating.
