Expanding their portfolio of compression and tension load cells, Measurement Specialties has announced the ELAF series. Offering superior resolution and higher reliability while remaining cost-effective, the force sensors are suitable for high volume test and measurement requiring a low cost, compact load cell, such as batch weighing, product validation testing, assembly force and thrust measurement applications.

The sensors feature a 'four-bar' design which, compared to single diaphragm designs, provides better stability and resistance to off-axis components by incorporating a flexible diaphragm which can parallel the measuring flexure. The ELAF series makes use of Measurement Specialties’ proprietary Microfused technology (this eliminates age-sensitive organic epoxies) to offer exceptional long term span and zero stability. Micro-machined piezoresistive strain gauges are fused with high temperature glass onto a high performance stainless steel measuring flexure.

Using strain gauges with gauge factors greater than 100, the load cells operate at very low strains. Additionally, they feature virtually limitless cycle life expectancy and exceedingly high over-range capabilities without the need for stops. The sensors operate over a temperature range from -40 to +125°C and a force range from 50N to 10KN. The ELAF series also features amplified ratiometric output span of 0.5-4.5 V or up to 20mV/V bridge output and zero output of 0mV ±5% FSO as standard, or 0.5V ±3% FSO when amplified.

In order to suit specific application requirements, several parameters are customisable within the standard load cell packaging. These include compensated temperature range, input voltage and lead lengths. While shielded FEP/PTFE cabling with strain relief is provided with each sensor, IP65 rating is offered on selected housing types.
