OmniVision Technologies introduce a new PureCel 13 megapixel CameraChip sensor for high-performance mobile devices. Enabling best-in-class high- and low-light performance, the OV13850 combines OmniVision's most advanced process technology and design methods. Ideal for high-end smartphones and tablets, the OV13850 features best-in-class power efficiency and dramatically improved pixel performance.

Harish Iyer, product marketing manager at OmniVision, commented: "The low-power OV13850 delivers excellent high resolution video and images in an ultra-slim form-factor. Considering these end-user benefits, we expect the OV13850 to be a highly competitive offering for the next-generation smartphones and tablets. The OV13850 enables our customers to upgrade their cameras from 8-megapixels to 13-megapixels without sacrificing end-user experience or increasing system cost."

Supporting an active array of 4224 x 3136 pixels (13.2-megapixels), the 1/3.06-inch OV13850 operates at 30 frames per second for zero shutter lag. Seamlessly transitioning between recording video and still images, the sensor supports 4K2K ultra-high definition video at 30 FPS with full-horizontal field of view and electronic image stabilization. Enabling high quality video recording, the OV13850 also supports high frame rate 1080p HD video at 60 FPS with EIS. It also supports the timing for high dynamic range video in 1080p HD video mode at 30 FPS.

Fitting into an industry standard 8.5 mm x 8.5 mm x 5 mm module, the OV13850 enables device-makers to quickly reap the benefits of OmniVision's advanced technology in existing system configurations. Currently sampling, the new sensor is expected to enter volume production in Q4 2013.
