A flat panel VCOM buffer amplifier has been introduced by Exar. The iML2911 employs sensing circuitry for VCOM output load requirements and automatically switches between multiple supply voltage combinations, resulting in energy savings of 50% for still images and 25% to 30% for dynamic display images.

The device is suitable for use in TV panel applications, where heat dissipation from VCOM buffer devices is a concern for panel and set makers, as local heating can negatively affect image quality.

Gi Young Lee, Senior Vice President, Marketing for ASSP, Exar, commented: “We are continuing to develop innovative techniques to address flat panel display makers’ requirements to improve battery performance, a critical parameter for many mobile devices with rechargeable batteries.”

The iML2911 is currently available in an 8-pin TDFN package and in a 9-ball CSP, priced from $0.45 and sold in 10,000-piece quantities. On request, device samples and evaluation circuit boards are available.
