UNIPOWER LLC will showcase its industry leading range of power solutions designed specifically for communications applications at the annual Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers Cable-Tec Expo’12.
UNIPOWER is an integrated combination of well-known and established companies in the power business, such as Deltron, Technipower, Power Solutions and Universal Voltronics and is a trusted partner to many of today’s premier companies within the communications industry. UNIPOWER leads in high reliability, high density, hot-swap power supply technology.

“Today’s complex and critical comms systems demand power sources that combine advanced technology with ever higher reliability levels, greater flexibility and lower cost, “says UNIPOWER’s Vice President of Marketing, Mike Henderson. “UNIPOWER meets these evolving requirements by developing innovative power solutions that can be configured to suit the most exacting electrical and environmental specifications.”.

At SCTE Cable-TEC Expo’12, UNIPOWER will present its standard and customized AC and DC power solutions designed to offer the user both wide input voltage and operating temperature ranges to meet the broadest variety of operating conditions. These include power modules capable of achieving industry leading power densities of more than 25W/cu.in and efficiency levels better than 92% which are the building blocks for scalable, turn-key solutions that offer class leading total cost of ownership through better thermal management and smaller footprints. These include stand alone and rack mount integrated systems that can incorporate controllers, hot-swappable rectifiers and front ends, battery back-up capability and communication via Ethernet as well as programing via PC-based web pages.

Central to UNIPOWER’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo’12 exhibit will be examples of the company’s integrated rack-mount power systems, front-ends and hot-swappable modular rectifiers.

Integrated Power Systems
The UNIPOWER Gravitas X200 integrated DC Power System is designed for telecom systems as well as other applications that require 12, 24 or 48VDC. Gravitas X200 is an ultra-compact system based on a 2RU shelf which is expandable to 3RU to provide output loads to 200A. Standard output voltages are -54.4VDC, +27.2VDC and +13.6VDC. They incorporate up to four high efficiency (92%) hot-swap rectifiers in 2RU systems and up to eight rectifiers in the expanded 3RU systems. Loads of up to 200A are available in either non-redundant or N+1 redundant configurations. Internal speed controlled fans are used to cool the rectifiers and, as they respond to load as well as temperature conditions, acoustic noise is kept to a minimum.

Hot Swap Modular Rectifiers
UNIPOWER’s BLUEstreak range of high-density, hot swappable modular rectifiers and front-ends can provide up to 2000W from a 1U high package at power densities as high as 24W/in³ and efficiency levels to 92% at 75% load. This makes them ideal for today’s energy conscious applications. BLUEstreak modules use the I²C based PMBus to pass status and control data between a host system, management unit, and the module. All units feature automatic load sharing as well as an active ORing circuit. They have an operating temperature range of –40 to +70ºC managed by variable speed cooling fans. LEDs indicate AC and DC power good and two standby outputs are available, +5V @ 1.8A and +12V @ 0.8A.

Front Ends
Launched earlier this year, the SGL3000 Series of 760W Front-Ends continue the company’s leadership in high efficiency, high density, hot swap power sources and will satisfy the latest networking and datacom applications that demand smaller size, lower energy consumption and a significantly reduced cost of ownership.

SGL3000 Front-Ends are 1U (1.57in) high and feature a power density of 17.5W/in³ with efficiency levels to 92%. The units operate from a universal 90 – 264VAC input with a minimum power factor of greater than 0.95 and output voltages are 12VDC and 5VSB. A 48VDC input version is also available.
