A configurable true digital PWM controller, with integrated MOSFET driver for smart digital PoL solutions, has been released by ZMDI. The ZSPM2000 operates as a synchronous step-down converter in a single-rail, single-phase configuration. The company’s Tru-Sample Technology and State-Law Control algorithms ensure best-in-class transient performance and steady-state behaviour.

With its integrated power-stage driver, the controller is suitable for use in area-constrained, high-performance applications, such as servers, storage units, base stations, FPGA boards and telecomms equipment. Digital communication and control are available via the PMBus interface, and ZMDI’s Pink Power Designer easy-to-use software enables users to quickly optimise their designs.

“The ZSPM2000 true digital PWM controller with Integrated MOSFET Driver is one of the smallest solutions available in the market. Designers select application-targeted power MOSFETs and combine them with our ZSPM2000 to produce a superior high-performance PoL solution with an extremely small footprint,” said Ed Lam, Vice President, Power Management, ZMDI. “Our digital control techniques, including Tru-Sample Technology, State-Law Control and Sub-cycle Response, provide designers with a high-performance solution in a small 4x4mm package. The Pink Power Designer design optimiser software helps power engineers explore design trade-offs such as cost and size. Our goal is to make it easy for our customers to build optimal PoL solutions quickly and at the lowest possible system cost.”

The ZSPM2000 and ZSPM2000-KIT01 evaluation kit are available now from ZMDI. For 1,000-piece quantities, the ZSPM2000 is priced at $2.74 per unit.
