Targeting the 100G optical networking market, Texas Instruments has introduced the company's first transimpedance amplifier (TIA). The ONET2804T provides high levels of sensitivity with negligible cross-talk and low input-referred noise of less than 2μA, offering stable and robust communication in hot-pluggable transceivers.

The ONET2804T is suitable for parallel optical interconnects in applications with data rates of up to 28Gbps, such as optical line cards, point-to-point microwave backhauls and video over fibre. The TIA's 750μm channel pitch reduces system complexity by allowing designers to wire bond directly to a photodiode. A two-wire I2C interface allows designers to optimise systems in order to drive high performance at low power consumption.

Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +100°C, the ONET2804T features 21GHz bandwidth, a gain of 10kΩ, a received signal strength indicator for each channel and a differential output amplitude of 450mVPP.

The TIA operates from a single 3.3 V supply and is available in die form.
