The ADP5301 high-efficiency, ultra-low power step-down regulators from Analog Devices is now being shipped by Mouser Electronics. Part of Analog Device’s comprehensive line of power management solutions, the regulators are compact, ultra-low-power buck devices that enable designers to extend their battery life in portable devices with one of the highest ultra-light-load power conversion efficiencies in the industry.

Delivering a 90% efficiency rating and consuming only 180 nA of quiescent current, the ADP5301 provides maximum power and battery life for longer periods of time, making these devices an ideal solution for a variety of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Analog Devices ADP5301 high-efficiency, ultralow power step-down regulators, available from Mouser Electronics, provide an input start-up voltage range from 2.15 V to 6.5 V, enabling designers to incorporate a variety of battery sources or other power sources and architectures.

The ADP5301 devices feature an integrated voltage supervisory function that increases overall system reliability, and the devices’ output voltage is selectable from 0.8 V to 5.0 V through an external VID resistor and factory fuse. The total solution only requires four tiny external components to help meet even the most demanding board space requirements.

The flexible power management capabilities of the ADP5301 are achieved through the user-selectable SYNC/MODE pin. This pin allows the regulator to run between hysteresis mode and a low-noise forced PWM mode.

The regulator in PWM mode produces a lower output ripple and supplies up to 500 mA of output current, whereas the regulator in hysteresis mode achieves excellent efficiency at a power of less than 1 mW and provides up to 50 mA of output current.

This switchable configuration during operation provides extremely efficient power management functionality that helps meet both extended battery life and low system noise requirements.

Other key features in the ADP5301 include separate enabling and quick-output discharge, as well as safety features such as overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, and input under-voltage lockout.

The regulators are available in a 9-ball, 1.65x1.87 mm WLCSP package that requires less than 3.1 mm² for mounting. They are targeted toward a broad array of low-power IoT applications, including energy (gas and water) metering, wearable devices, wireless sensor networks, portable and battery-powered equipment, medical devices and keep-alive power supplies. In addition, the ADO5301 is supported by an evaluation board, the 584-ADP5301-EVALZ, also available through the Mouser Electronics website.
