Intersil has announced the ISL8107, a single phase, non-synchronous buck controller that provides maximum efficiency and flexibility for telecommunications and industrial designs. The ISL8107 features an ultra-wide operating input voltage range of 9V to 75V, with an internal 1.192V reference voltage tolerance of ±1% over industrial temperature ranges. It integrates a high-side N-Channel MOSFET driver, which can be used to drive a MOSFET that is connected to the positive supply and is not ground-referenced.
/> Using voltage-mode control with feed-forward compensation, the ISL8107 provides optimal transient response and a constant loop gain over the input voltage range. The IC’s switching frequency can be programmed from 100kHz to 600kHz using an external resistor and capacitor. Switching frequencies can be synchronized to an external clock signal through the SYNC pin.

The ISL8107 also provides programmable soft-start, hiccup mode for short circuit protection, and over-temperature protection. Overcurrent protection is achieved using the MOSFET’s Rds(on) sensing, which simplifies the implementation while maintaining converter efficiency.

The ISL8107 is the latest member of Intersil’s growing family of highly integrated, efficient single-phase controllers. In addition to telecomm and industrial applications, it also is ideal for routers and switchers, point of load modules, and distributed DC/DC power architecture applications.

The ISL8107 is available now in 16-lead 5mm x 5mm QFN packages.
