DP Energy Services (Formerly Drake Power) has announced its Powerstax-Drake series of Transformer Rectifiers, offering output voltages from 2 to 600V, output currents of up to 5,000A and output power up to 1000kW. These are 3 phase input, primary or secondary thyristor controlled units, with switch-mode technology available for smaller systems.

Drake has experience in systems suitable for harsh environments (marine, offshore, desert) and hazardous (Zone 1 and Zone 2) environments. The systems can be oil, air or water cooled and can be sealed up to IP65 if the environment dictates, with purge/pressure systems and heat exchangers incorporated if desired.

Powerstax-Drake products are designed to meet the harsh environmental conditions they are required to operate in, which can be very damaging to the precision electronic equipment needed to control surface finishing processes. Reliability is central to all Powerstax-Drake designs to ensure continuous operation and minimise disruptive and costly downtime.

Drake power solutions for surface finishing are typically a bespoke design to meet a customer’s specific requirements. Manual, computer control and remote monitoring options are available with full control of the voltage ramp profiles required for the complete surface finishing process. Custom designed power solutions can be delivered in four to six weeks.

Powerstax and Drake both have a number of 'blue-chip' customers and the acquisition will allow the combined companies to access each other’s and new markets. Drake custom power solutions will be offered alongside the Powerstax range of standard, value-added and custom AC and DC power solutions serving a broad range of fixed and mobile applications including hot swap front-end AC/DC bulk power, DC/DC converter bricks and modules and programmable, modular rack mounted power supplies.

With the current low investment in new electroplating and galvanising installations there is continuing demand to extend the life of existing equipment for as long as possible. Powerstax-Drake provide full service, repair and calibration services to support their customers and annual service contracts are available if required.

“Drake is a great brand with an excellent range of products, some 50 years’ experience of manufacturing transformers with more than 30 of those years making large power systems and has a large installed customer base,” commented Tim Worley, CEO, Powerstax. “With the energy, experience and expertise Powerstax brings to Drake, we are anticipating rapid development of new products for traditional and emerging markets and great opportunities for growth. Our goal is to leverage the reputation of the Drake brand and become recognised as the first choice supplier for powering a variety of electrolysis processes and surface finishing in particular”

The markets served by Drake include marine, offshore, cathodic protection, water treatment (electrochlorination), electrochemical, plating and engine starting, whilst the main markets served by Powerstax include high-end industrial, defence, vehicle and transportation, avionics, communications, test, measurement and control and medical equipment.
