Designed for non-isolated, high-current PoL supplies, the ZSPM1501 single-phase true-digital power solution has been released by ZMDI.

The PWM controller has been optimised and pre-configured for an external power stage output voltage at the industry standard voltage of 0.85V, which can supply the core voltage typically needed for higher performance supplies based on FPGAs and SoCs in enterprise computer networking and cloud data storage equipment. Such systems may require a voltage error less than 3% with a maximum voltage ripple of 5mVpp for the core voltages of the FPGA or SOC. The ZSPM1501 can regulate the source for the 0.85V to ensure excellent transient response, maximise noise immunity, control power up/down and detect faults.

The controller’s digital control loop and compensation are pre-configured to provide customers with a fast time-to-market and easy-to-design solution for high-performance, digitally controlled power supplies with one of ZMDI’s integrated MOSFET power stage DrMOS products: ZSPM9000, ZSPM9010, ZSPM9015 or ZSPM9060. The device’s flexible design allows users to easily select the over-current protection limit, output voltage rise time and control loop compensation via two external resistors to achieve the highest performance in their application.

The ZSPM1501 is capable of supporting loads of up to 40A at the popular bus voltage 0.85V. ZMDI also provides BOMs and circuit board layouts to improve the customer’s design cycle, reduce external component cost and minimise application footprint size.

“Many of the next-gen FPGA solutions require an ultra-compact and high performance solution. Customers have expressed their desire for a user-friendly and simple-to-use digital power solution,” said Hensen Wong, Product Marketing Manager, Power Management Division, ZMDI. “ZMDI is able to offer customers a fast time-to-market for high-performance digital PoL solutions.”
