A high-power module designed for use in MicroTCA systems, designated the PS-1142, has been launched by Gresham Power Electronics. The module supports shelves, cube, and other mechanical implementations and complies with the PICMG MicroTCA .4 Revision 1.0 specification.

The PS-1142 provides functionality for powering, managing, and protecting a MicroTCA system that includes up to 12 AdvancedMCs, 2 MicroTCA Carrier Hubs and 2 Cooling Units. Provision is made to read the current of each output module and an IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) is provided to allow system administrators to update the power supply firmware if required.

Key Features of the Gresham PS-1142 include; 1,000W output power, 16 channels of 12 V @ 7.6A, 16 channels of 3.3V @ 200mA, hot swappable N+1 output redundancy, is protected against overload, short circuit, over voltage, and over temperature conditions and meets Class B conducted emission standards.

The Gresham PS-1142 also monitors and reports power system status and conditions of operation, manages and isolates faults that affect the power system, provides the power necessary for MCH and CU system elements on system bring-up, supports redundant IPMI (IPMB-0) communication with the MCH/Carrier-Manager, enables and provides power to AMCs, CUs, and additional MCHs under the command of the carrier manager and includes an Enhanced Module Management Controller using two IPMBs (IPMB-A and IPMB-B).

Input voltage is 90–264VAC, 50 / 60Hz with a typical power factor of 0.99, efficiency >88% and the PS-1142 provides a hold-up time of 10ms minimum at 1000W. The Gresham PS-1142 meets safety standards, UL, cUL 60950-1,  CSA 60950-1 and VDE 60950-1. The 12V output Payload Power has a total regulation range from 12.25 to 12.95 VDC when configured as primary PM and 11.60 to 12.00 VDC when configured as redundant PM. The 3.3V Output Management Power provides a total regulation range from 3.13 to 3.63 VDC

The Gresham PS-1142 uTCA power supply has an operating temperature range from 10ºC to 55ºC full load with 300 LFM forced air cooling, a storage temperature range from -40ºC to 85ºC, can with withstand random vibration 10Hz to 500Hz on3 axis @ 1.9 GRMS maximum and shock with peak acceleration of 1 GPK maximum.

MicroTCA offers scientific and instrumentation markets a standardised, highly configurable, hardware platform for a broad range of applications, able to be produced in high volumes at low cost. MicroTCA provides a system architecture allowing AdvancedMC mezzanine cards to be plugged directly into a MicroTCA backplane without a carrier card and its associated costs. The MicroTCA architecture offers high availability systems from none to fully redundant as hot-swappable cubes.

The Gresham Power PS-1142 MicroTCA power supply is also suitable for enterprise and data communications, telecom edge applications and customer premises equipment, digital imaging, industrial and medical equipment.
