Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX17100, an integrated PMIC for gate-in-panel (GIP) LCD monitors. Developed using Maxim's proprietary, high-voltage BiCMOS process, this PMIC fulfills all the power requirements for GIP-based LCD monitor panels by integrating a boost regulator, three high-current operational amplifiers, a VCOM calibrator, linear regulators for gate-on and gate-off supplies, and a 6-channel level shifter. Designed to enable slimmer monitor form factors, the MAX17100 provides a cost-competitive solution for powering the source drivers, gate drivers, and VCOM backplane in LCD monitor panels.
All power blocks are optimized for GIP-based TFT LCDs. The boost regulator employs a 1.2MHz switching frequency to allow the use of low-profile inductors and ceramic capacitors for slimmer panel designs. Built-in digital soft-start and an integrated power MOSFET control inrush currents while reducing the number of external components required. The MAX17100 delivers output voltages up to 18V from a 2.5V to 6V input while achieving > 85% efficiency. The integrated operational amplifiers drive the VCOM backplane and feature a 200mA short-circuit current with a 45V/microsecond slew rate. The 6-channel level shifter can swing from +35V to -15V and can swiftly drive capacitive loads. The MAX17100 also includes an I2C-controlled VCOM calibrator that provides 7-bit setting accuracy.
