Intersil has released a single-chip POL synchronous buck regulator for satellite systems, nuclear reactor equipment, down hole drilling applications, and other high-reliability systems.
The ISL70001SRH is a complete power solution designed for use in systems that required POL power in extreme temperature and radiation-intensive environments. It integrates 6A power MOSFETs, MOSFET drivers and a 1MHz PWM controller in single compact package. Two ISL70001SRH devices can be synchronized 180 degrees out-of-phase to reduce input RMS ripple current and the size of input filter components.

The regulator offers superior single event transient (SET) performance, with <1 pulse perturbation at the switching node up to an LET = 86.4MeV/mg/cm squared. Total ionizing dose (TID) capacity is 100Krads(Si) and is offered in Class V and Class Q manufacturing flows electrically screened to DSCC SMD# 5962-09225. The combination of excellent SET and TID characteristics makes the ISL70001SRH a logical design choice to power many of today's small form-factor applications.

The ISL70001SRH operates over an input voltage range of 3V to 5.5V and provides a tightly regulated output voltage that is externally adjustable from 0.8V up to 85% of the input voltage. Output current capability is 6A for TJ up to +145 degrees C. An analogue soft-start circuit controls start-up, and can be adjusted from approximately 2ms to 200ms using an external capacitor. In addition, the ISL70001SRH incorporates fault protection for the regulator, with protection including input undervoltage, output undervoltage and output overcurrent.
