XP Power have introduced a new series of 800 and 1500 Watt highly efficient programmable AC-DC power supplies featuring a typical efficiency of up to 93%. Measuring 249.0 mm x 127.0 mm x 40.9 mm, the HDS800 models fit into an industry standard 1U profile, while the HDS1500 range fits into an industry standard 2U profile with dimensions of 280.0 mm x 127.0 mm x 63.5 mm.

Offering a power density greater than 10 Watts per cubic inch, the new HDS series power supplies feature two front mounted variable speed fans which help conserve energy and keep noise to a minimum.

Comprising seven models covering the popular nominal outputs from +12 to +60 VDC, output voltages for both HDS800 and HDS1500 series can also be manually adjusted +/- 5% by a trim function in order to make up for line losses. Both ranges also provide a user selectable standby output of 5 VDC / 0.5 Amp or 9 VDC / 0.3 Amp when the AC input is present.

Both the output voltage and output current are programmable from 0% through to 105% of stated nominal through a serial RS232 interface, I2C interface, a 0 to +5 VDC input or via an external potential divider. A true constant current output is achieved down to almost zero volts by programming the output current. This is significantly better than the industry norm which is typically only down to 20-40%.

With multifunction LEDs indicating power supply status and giving warning notifications through different colours and blinking rates, the HDS PSUs have a comprehensive set of signals and controls such as remote on/off, AC OK, remote sense, PWM switching and overtemperature shutdown. I2C serial data connections provide for bi-directional data transmission between the power supply and external monitoring / controlling equipment.

Operating over an extended temperature rangeof -10 degrees C to +70 degrees C (+60 degrees C for HDS1500) with no derating until +50 degrees C, the HDS800/1500 is suitable for world-wide use since it accomodates the full universal input voltage range of 90 – 264 VAC. Complying with EN55022 Class B specification for conducted and radiated EMI, the series is approved to the internationally recognised safety specification IEC 60950-1 for ITE, industrial and commercial equipment. Allowing for system scalability of any future increased power requirements, a current sharing function provides for parallel operation of up to five power units for applications that might require a higher output power or for redundancy purposes.

The HDS800/1500 are intended for use in applications such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment, battery charging and automatic test equipment. Available now from approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power, the HDS800/1500 series PSUs come with a 3 year warranty.
