Harmer & Simmons, the telecom power division of AEG Power Solutions, announces the introduction of the first two models in a new generation of DC power systems that enables telecom network operators to reduce energy consumption. Engineered and built with Harmer & Simmons unique ecopx ® architecture, the MPi80HD (8kW) and MPi160HD (16 kW) models are designed to reduce electricity consumption, the highest single contributor to mobile telecom operating costs.
The new MPi models increase power supply efficiency to an impressive 93%, thanks to advanced energy-saving and power management features. “It’s certainly one of the most reliable and cost effective solutions available in terms of both capital and operating costs,” said Harmer & Simmons Technical Marketing Director Leonard Walker. “With world-class power density, excellent reliability, near-flat efficiency curve and a sleep mode for power management during periods of low traffic, our new range demonstrates that a green purchase can in fact lead to a significant reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO).”

Specifically designed to help reduce electricity consumption and the resulting carbon emissions, Harmer & Simmons’ ecopx ® solutions approach helps communications service providers and OEMs address sustainability issues. Engineered to minimize heat generation while operating in high temperature environments, the MPi range requires minimal cooling for each base station, further reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Thanks to modular design, MPi systems enhance customers’ ability to find solutions tailored to their specific requirements. Modular design also reduces lead times by as much as one-half, while simplifying and accelerating maintenance and parts replacement.

The initial MPi range 8kW and 16kW solutions will be followed by 40-to-80kW and 120-to-240kW models by mid-2010. An advanced controller compatible with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind for hybrid power solutions will also be available by mid-year.
