Designed to provide a high integrity supply for distributed high power architectures, a dual phase synchronous rectified buck controller has been announced by Diodes Incorporated. Delivering an output current of up to 60A with embedded bootstrapped drivers that support 12V+12V driver capability, the AP3595 ensures high efficiency power conversion.

Suiting the power needs of high end GPU and memory cores, this compact buck controller has the bootstrap diode built into the device itself. This helps to simplify circuit design and reduce the external part count and PCB size. Regulated via a reference input set using an external voltage divider, the AP3595’s gate drive voltage is fully configurable in order to optimise system performance. The controller is suitable for applications including middle-high end GPU core power; high end desktop PC memory core power; low output voltage, high power density DC/DC converters; and voltage regulator modules.

The controller ensures phase currents are balanced at all times by tuning the duty cycle of each channel in response to internal MOSFET on-resistance sensing. The AP3595 features a power saving interface which enables it to automatically switch between dual and single mode to help reduce losses. When this power saving interface pin is greater than 1.2V, the buck controller enters dual phase mode; and when it is less than 0.4V, single phase mode is selected.

The AP3595 dual phase synchronous rectified buck controller ensures high reliability operation at high currents with current protection, input/output under voltage protection, over voltage protection, over temperature protection and an adjustable soft start facility. It is available now with prices starting from $0.50 (USD) in 1,000 unit quantities.
