Featuring a footprint of only 2.9x 2.3mm and an insertion height of 1mm, the B30000P80 series of ultra-compact EPCOS µDC/DC converters has been released by TDK. A 6MHz power switch, which is claimed to save up to 35% of space, is embedded in the miniature PCB. The B30000P80 series is comprised of eight µDC/DC converters, which are designed for an input voltage range of 2.2 and 5.5VDC and offer output voltages from 1.10-2.80VDC.

Providing a maximum output current of 600mA, the devices feature overload protection and shut down automatically at high temperatures. The converters achieve an efficiency of 92%, making them particularly suitable for battery-powered devices.

The µDC/DC converters can be shut down via an enable input, where the supply current drops to below 1µA. Under light loads, the devices utilise PFM, with a typical low quiescent current of 24µA, to operate in power-save mode. The converters, which feature a fast load transient response, allow light loads to be handled without additional filtering through low ripple voltages and currents.

The B30000P80 series of EPCOS µDC/DC converters are suitable for wearable devices, smart watches and WLAN, GPS and Bluetooth applications. The devices can also be used in camera and sensor modules, optical modules and memory cards.
