CISSOID expands its STAR product family with CHT-RIGEL, a new adjustable voltage regulator for embedded power supplies in applications that must sustain high temperatures, harsh environments or that simply require extended lifetime. RIGEL accepts a wide input voltage range from 4.5V up to 30V, and generates a regulated output settable between 1.8V and 28V.
With 100mA current capability, it is suitable for a large number of applications where analog circuitry or small microcontrollers or FPGAs require a stable and accurate supply voltage. It features a chip enable input putting the circuit in a stand-by mode, with a few µA typical power consumption.

The device is packaged in a tiny SMD ceramic package TDFP 5x5.5mm, guaranteed for operation from -55°C up to +225°C

Pierre Delatte, CTO at CISSOID, highlighted: “CHT-RIGEL is the only linear voltage regulator today in the market combining voltage accuracy, high reliability, very small footprint and excellent transient responses. This regulator guarantees ±5% accuracy at any line or load conditions throughout the whole temperature range, from -55°C to 225°C. Special attention was paid to a smooth start-up, an excellent stability and a fast response to line or load transients even with small external capacitors which is crucial for harsh environments due to the size and cost of high temperature capacitors. Last but not least, CHT-RIGEL is virtually indestructible thanks to the combination of thermal shutdown and its current limitation”.

A very large number of applications will benefit from this regulator, well beyond the traditional “high-reliability applications”: Even at medium ambient temperature, the self-heating quickly brings the junction temperature at the limits of traditional regulators. Furthermore, the lifetime is then dramatically reduced. CISSOID’s CHT-RIGEL sustains such harsh environment reliably.
