Representing a significant upgrade to the popular PFE-S series launched 5 years ago, the PFE-SA series of AC/DC full-brick power modules has been launched by TDK-Lambda. The power modules are particularly well-suited for outdoor applications, as well as equipment requiring water-cooling, hermetic sealing, fanless operation and compact design.

Like the existing models, the PFE300SA and PFE500SA are fully regulated and have the same main circuit and structure to provide a convenient AC/DC board mounted solution for applications such as industrial, MIL-COTS, datacom and telecom – but with up to 4% efficiency improvement (series maximum efficiency 91%) and a 5-year warranty. The inverter operation good (IOG) functions provide greater flexibility in the diagnostics of the power system. In addition, all models have remote senses.

The PFE300-SA and PFE500SA models are available in 12V, 28V and 48V nominal outputs, all can be adjusted over a ±20% range. The PFE300SA can deliver full power with a baseplate temperature of between -40 and +100°C. The 12V PFE500SA has a maximum base-plate temperature of 85°C, while the 28V and 48V models deliver the same output at temperatures up to 100°C. Line and load regulation is 0.4%, and efficiency exceeds 85% in all versions.

All versions of the PFE-SA series accept a wide AC input from 85V to 265V at 47-63Hz, have active power factor correction and an input to output isolation of 3kV for one minute. In addition, over voltage, over current and over temperature protections are included. The series conforms to EN/UL/CSA 60950-1 safety approvals for general purpose applications and carries the CE mark according to the low voltage (LV) and RoHS Directives.
