Rugged linear regulator features increased SOA
Linear has announced the LT3088, a rugged 800mA wide VIN-range linear regulator. The device has an extended Safe Operating Area (SOA) compared to existing regulators, making it suitable for high input-to-output voltage and high output current applications where older regulators limit the output. The LT3088 uses a current source reference for single resistor output voltage settings and output adjustability down to 0.
Simplify Li-Ion battery backup systems
A lithium battery backup power management system for 3.5-5V supply rails that must be kept active during a main power failure has been introduced by Linear Technology. Batteries provide considerably more energy than supercapacitors, making them superior for applications which require backup for extended periods of time.
185mm busbar system withstands 50kA for a second
Rittal has launched the Ri4Power modular busbar system with a 185mm busbar centre distance. Ri4Power is suitable for configuring compact, secure power distribution within Ri4Power switchgear systems or Rittal’s renowned TS 8 enclosure range. Offering current ratings of up to 1600A and a short time withstand rating of 50kA for one second, the Ri4Power system meets the current switchgear standard IEC 61439-1.
Complementary MOSFET pair enhance buck converter power density
Integrating an N-channel and a P-channel MOSFET, the DMC1028UFDB complementary MOSFET pair has been introduced by Diodes Incorporated. Aimed at increasing the power density of DC/DC converters, the DMC1028UFDB is customised for PoL converters that step down from 3.3 to 1V for core voltage supply to ASICs.
Trench SiC MOSFET cuts on-state resistance in half
ROHM has announced the development and mass production of a SiC MOSFET that adopts the world's first trench structure. Compared to existing planar-type SiC MOSFETs, RDS(ON) is reduced by 50% in the same chip size, making it possible to significantly decrease power loss in a variety of equipment, from industrial inverters and power supplies to power conditioners for solar power systems.
6W DC/DC converters offer 4:1 input range in SIP package
Delivering a power density of up to 2.69W/m3 (44W/in3), the ITQ series of DC/DC converters have been introduced by XP Power. Packaged in a compact SIP 8-pin format, with a footprint measuring just 21.9x11.1x9.2mm, the 6W converters take up less board space, giving designers more room to add features or the ability to reduce end product size.
SiC MOSFET module offers low switching losses
CISSOID has released CHT-PLUTO, a dual Silicon Carbide MOSFET module primarily meant for half-bridges with 30A continuous capability for both low-side and high-side, delivering up to 60A. The two independent switches can be used in parallel to deliver a total of 60A with a breakdown voltage in excess of 1200V and a low on-resistance of 23mΩ at 25°C and 50mΩ at 225°C at VGS=20V.
NiZn battery passes critical testing for 12V automotive use
PowerGenix has announced it has completed a comprehensive product evaluation test plan with Institute of Automotive Mechatronics (IAM), a part of the Institute of Automotive Technologies Dresden (IAD), at the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD). IAD evaluated NiZn performance capabilities to meet all the requirements of a 12V auxiliary power unit for PHEVs and all EVs, as well as a 12V starter battery for ...
Battery ageing characteristics scrutinised by tech institute
Battery storage systems currently on the market differ considerably in terms of safety, price, performance, and, hence, economic efficiency. At Intersolar, the world’s leading exhibition for the solar industry in Munich, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will present its latest research findings as to how efficient batteries should be designed and provide information on the reliable assessment of the performance of storage systems...
PMIC enables 2S Li batteries for thinner computing
Dialog Semiconductor has introduced the DA9312, a PMIC that enables the design of smaller, thinner notebooks and tablets powered by dual cell stacked (2S) Li-ion or Li-Polymer batteries. The notebook industry is moving towards designs powered by 2-cell, rather than 3-cell batteries and tablets are moving from single cell to 2-cell batteries. Dialog calls its DA9312 the 'most integrated power management solution currently available'.
