Micro DC/DC converters are 'world's smallest'
Two series of DC/DC converters, claimed to be the world’s smallest in the 1.0A continuous output current category, have been released by Torex Semiconductor. The XCL219 and XCL220 series of ‘micro' DC/DC converters feature an integrated coil and control IC.
5A DC/DC converter is offered in a 3x3mm QFN package
A high efficiency (greater than 90%), pin-configurable 5A synchronous buck converter in a tiny 3x3mm QFN package has been introduced by Micrel. The MIC24046-H features pin selectable output voltage, switching frequency and current limit settings, which improve design flexibility, and eliminates multiple external components.
Current-sense amplifier integrates shunt resistor
Claimed to be the industry’s first current-sense amplifier to integrate a high-precision, low-drift shunt resistor, which can deliver highly accurate measurements over a wide temperature range, the INA250 has been unveiled by Texas Instruments. This integration also enables lower system cost and a smaller board footprint compared to competitive solutions.
Protect 1- & 2-cell lithium batteries while charging
Offering a compact, bi-directional low-loss switch for battery-charging circuits, the DMN2014LHAB and DMN2011UFX dual N-channel enhancement mode MOSFETs have been introduced by Diodes Incorporated. The devices are designed for use in chargers for portable devices such as smartphones, tablets, cameras and media players, which use 1- and 2-cell lithium batteries.
Improve system performance in hybrid vehicles
A 120V automotive grade half-bridge gate driver, claimed to be the industry’s fastest, has been introduced by Texas Instruments. The UCC27201A-Q1 high-side/low-side gate driver provides a propagation delay at 15ns with short rise and fall times and the tightest delay matching of 1ns for 12 to 48V DC/DC power supplies.
AC/DC power supplies deliver 28W per cubic inch
Delivering 28W per cubic inch, the (M)WLP225 series of high efficiency, medical and commercial AC/DC modules has been announced by EOS Power. Supplied in a 50x100x25mm (2x4x1") package, the series features efficiencies up to 94%, standby power consumption of 0.5W and dual fusing.
Hermetic hybrid DC/DC converters are rated at 185ºC
The industry’s first hermetic hybrid DC/DC converters rated at 185ºC in a 1” wide package has been introduced by IR HiRel, an Infineon Technologies company. The devices are designed specifically for oil and gas exploration downhole tools and can withstand the high temperature as well as the high shock environment typically found in these applications. As oil and gas are more and more difficult to find, exploration takes plac...
GE Energy Management supplies power solution to French Navy
GE Energy Management has signed a contract with French electrical engineering company Cegelec in Brittany, France, to supply a complete static power solution for the French Navy. The solution will use GE’s advanced Static Frequency Converters (SFC) technology to provide high conversion efficiency and a safe and reliable power transfer from the electric power grid to the French naval vessels while in port.
Power supplies target harsh environments
Designed for use in harsh environments, the HEP-100, 150 and 185 series of AC/DC power supplies has been introduced by Mean Well. Providing 100, 150 and 185W of power, the devices feature an aluminium case and are fully potted with a heat-conducted silicone.
Load bank accepts standard AC input ranges from 120 to 480V
The introduction of the PEL Regenerative AC Electronic Load Bank has been announced by Intepro Systems. Built around a 60kVA chassis, the system can be parallelled for higher power requirements. It also accepts standard AC input ranges from 120 to 480V and provides grid-synchronised, regenerated AC power output that returns 90% of the equipment under test load power back to the utility. The PEL series provides an energy-saving solution when testi...
