Contactor handles currents as high as 4000A
TE Connectivity has released the KILOVAC KHR500 (Bubba II) high-voltage, high-rupture, 600 AMP contactor, which is smaller, lighter, and switches significantly higher power than its predecessor, the EV500 (Bubba I). Capable of handling inrush currents as high as 4000A, the device is hermetically sealed for use in harsh and explosive environments.
On-chip DC/DC converter powers digital isolators
The Si88x2x Dual Digital Isolators from Silicon Labs are in stock at distributor Mouser Electronics. The modules integrate proven digital isolator technology with an on-chip isolated DC-DC converter to provide regulated output voltages of 3.3V or 5.0V at peak output power of up to 5W with external power switch.
Excelsys adds PMBus protocol to Xsolo power supply platform
Excelsys Technologies announces the availability of PMBus communications on its Xsolo series of 1U, single output PSUs. Xsolo units equipped with an optional I2C digital interface can be remotely monitored by system supervisory equipment utilising industry standard PMBus protocols.
Real-time search results
DCDCselector.com has updated its IC-Quicksearch tool. Now, when users pre-select parameters for DC/DC converter, controller, LED driver and PMIC products, a small counter shows how many product results are found in real-time.
Reduced size & weight power supply suits space applications
Pico Electronics was recently asked to design a highly reliable, high voltage miniature DC/DC converter module for a space application. Using the company's expertise, they were able to reduce the size and weight without compromising the converter's reliability in these extreme environmental conditions.
DC electronic load returns up to 95% of test energy
Intepro Systems has introduced the ELR9000 series of electronic DC loads. A unique feature of the ELR9000 series is an integral, grid-synchronised inverter designed to return up to 95% of the load test energy back to the grid. The rack-mounted unit is available, off-the shelf, with output ratings of 3.5, 7 and 10.5kW (scalable to 105kW).
60V Dual DC/DC controller features I²C-based PMBus interface
Linear has announced the LTC3886, a 60V input dual output synchronous step-down DC/DC controller with programmable loop compensation and I²C-based PMBus interface. This controller employs a constant-frequency, current-mode architecture with programmable output voltage up to 13.8V. The LTC3886 suits harsh environments requiring a high input voltage range, such as in factory automation, industrial, medical, communications and avionic appl...
Material gains produce cost competitive inductors
With its new inductor series UHEI and HPPC, Chilisin is targeting applications in automotive electronics. The inductors are available at distributor Rutronik as of now. Using its powder-making plant Chilisin is able to provide inductors that combine reliability and competitive cost structure.
The era of practical fusion power may be approaching
It’s an old joke that many fusion scientists have grown tired of hearing: Practical nuclear fusion power plants are just 30 years away - and always will be. But now, finally, the joke may no longer be true: Advances in magnet technology have enabled researchers at MIT to propose a new design for a practical compact tokamak fusion reactor - and it’s one that might be realized in as little as a decade, they say.
Compact 5W wall plug adapters meet DOE Level VI standard
CUI has announced a line of ultra-compact 5W wall plug adapters for the US, Japanese and European markets featuring an integrated USB connector. The SWI5-5-N-I38 and SWI5-5-E-I38 are designed to meet the stringent average efficiency and no load power requirements mandated by the US Department of Energy (DOE) set to go into effect on February 10, 2016.
