3.3V surge provides protection for electronic devices
The supplier of analogue and mixed-signal semiconductors, Semtech Corporation, has announced the μClamp 3381P, a single-line, 3.3V surge rated Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) device for safeguarding industrial and consumer interfaces against transient voltage threats. The μClamp3381P achieves an unmatched surge/silicon area ratio offering 25A (8x20µs) surge immunity in an ultra-small 1.0x0.6mm package.
50mm thyristor/diode modules 25% less expensive
With the introduction of a 50mm module, Infineon Technologies AG extends its product portfolio of thyristor/diode modules in solder bond technology. These bipolar modules address the growing market for cost-effective solutions even in demanding applications. Depending on the module, market prices are approximately 25% lower than comparable pressure contact variants.
Drive 3-phase BLDC motors in automotive applications
ON Semiconductor has expanded its automotive Power Integrated Module (PIM) portfolio with a device which contains six 40V, 30A MOSFETs configured as a three-phase bridge with an additional 40V, 30A high-side reverse battery protection MOSFET. The MOSFETs are mounted onto a Direct Bonded Copper (DBC) substrate, resulting in a compact module with excellent thermal performance taking up only half of the board space used by an equivalent discrete sol...
DC/DC converter powers gate drives for optimal efficiency
Suited for driving high and low-side gate circuits such as those using IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs for optimal efficiency, a series of 1W DC/DC converter series has been announced by Murata Power Solutions. The compact MGJ1 series features high isolation characteristics, up to 5.2kVDC, popular nominal output voltage combinations of +15 / -5, +15 / -9 or +19 / -5VDC. The series also offers a choice of +5, +12 or +24VDC input.
Current transducer accurately monitors loads up to 400A
The AT/ATR-FD series current transducer has been introduced by NK Technologies. An aperture with a 1.31” inside diameter accommodates wire sizes for loads up to 400A – facilitating the feeding of wires through the sensing window for easy installation, even in applications with multiple conductors per phase. The sensor is compact (similar in size to a standard sensor case) and can be easily mounted on a back panel or DIN rail. It is co...
Medium voltage multi-level IGBT drives are smallest in class
The HIVECTOL-HVI-E2 series has been introduced by Hitachi, to expand its product line of HIVECTOL-HVI medium voltage multi-level IGBT drives, which contribute to energy conservation in process plants, as well as improvements in productivity and quality. Sale of E2 series, the smallest in class, will start on October 1st.
CIT Relay & Switch and switch offers 12mm vandal resistant pushbutton
CIT Relay & Switch offers the FH series in a small but robust package size of 12mm. This panel mount switch line is heavy-duty and rugged in construction - both splash and vandal resistant. The FH series is available as momentary in SPST. Flush and raised actuator styles offer nonilluminated, bi-colour ring illumination or dot illumination.
Researchers nearly double the output power of a THz laser
Researchers have nearly doubled the continuous output power of a type of laser, called a terahertz quantum cascade laser, with potential applications in medical imaging, airport security and more. Increasing the continuous output power of these lasers is an important step toward increasing the range of practical applications. The researchers report their results in the journal AIP Advances.
Li-ion battery realised with superconcentrated electrolyte
One of the biggest challenges facing next-generation lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles is finding ways to further increase the driving range. One way to do this is by increasing the battery voltage from the present 4 volts to 5 volts. The problem, however, is that the higher voltage is usually accompanied by a severe capacity loss of more than 50% after only 100 charge/discharge cycles.
Industry's only Qi-certified 15W wireless power transmitter
Texas Instruments has introduced the bq501210, the industry’s first Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) v1.2 Qi-certified 15W wireless power transmitter. The device enables 84% system efficiency with significantly less thermal dissipation than traditional wireless power devices. The transmitter supports multiple fast-charging protocols and offers an array of flexible and customisable features such as personal electronics, medical and space-cons...
