Glow-in-the-dark dye could fuel liquid-based batteries
Could a glow-in-the-dark dye be the next advancement in energy storage technology? Scientists at the University at Buffalo think so. They have identified a fluorescent dye called BODIPY as an ideal material for stockpiling energy in rechargeable, liquid-based batteries that could one day power cars and homes. BODIPY—short for boron-dipyrromethene—shines brightly in the dark under a black light.
DC/DC converters span 8.0 to 240W for transport use
DC/DC converters designed for the railway industry make up the industry’s broadest portfolio of EN50155 certified products available on the market, says Recom. The company’s railway portfolio includes DC/DC converters from 8.0 to 240W. Recent additions to the company’s range are the RPA20-AW, RPA30-AW, RPA60-FW, RP20-FR, and RP40-FR.
Step-down µModule regulator is scalable to 180A
A 30A step-down µModule (power module) regulator has been introduced by Linear Technology. The LTM4647 includes the inductor, MOSFET, DC/DC controller and supporting components in a 9x15x5.01mm BGA package.
Current sense resistor offers high power rating up to 6W
A surface-mount Power Metal Strip current sense resistor that combines a high power rating up to 6W, TCR down to ± 70ppm/°C, and extremely low resistance values down to 0.0003Ω in the 2512 case size has been announced by Vishay Intertechnology.
100MHz SPI isolators facilitate faster data converters
A range of SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) µModule isolators has been introduced by Linear Technology Corporation. The LTM2893 and LTM2895 are optimised for Linear Technology’s family of high performance data converters. They support SPI clock speeds up to 100MHz, enabling the use of higher resolution and higher speed data converters while maintaining zero latency operation.
DC/DC converter aids industrial 12 & 24 VDC systems
Murata is announcing the third modular DC/DC converter development effort from Murata Power Solutions designed for industrial 12 & 24 VDC systems. The ICF series follows the same design principles to provide an industrial grade, rugged, high-power, baseplate-cooled DC/DC converter.
Meeting the global demand for lower energy
Electronic Specifier Editor Joe Bush spoke to Jim Witham, Chief Executive Officer of GaN Systems at electronica about the company’s offer of gallium nitride (GaN) power transistors and the role they are playing in the world’s energy reduction needs of the future.
Partnership provides Li-on power supplies for medical use
A development that eliminates the problems of unreliability and short life typically experienced by mobile medical carts powered by traditional lead-acid batteries has been created through a partnership betwen Saft and the Dutch start-up, DCPower4C.
Power MOSFETs are board space savers
With three new n-channel devices in the compact PowerPAK SO-8L-package, Vishay has extended its offering of 600V and 650V E Series power MOSFETs. The new space-saving MOSFETs with high reliability are available at distributor Rutronik. With a compact size of 5x6mm, the Vishay Siliconix MOSFETs 600V SiHJ8N60E and 650V SiHJ6N65E and SiHJ7N65E occupy only half the board space compared to MOSFETs in the TO-252 (DPAK) package.
Bluetooth direct-connect battery for medical devices
Small add-on board instead of cumbersome own software development. Just left to ask: “With or without?” - Ansmann Industry Solutions has developed a battery with integrated Bluetooth interface for automated wireless data transmission. Prototype and app for the world innovation are presented at the Electronica 2016. Manufacturers of wheelchairs, patient surveillance or therapy devices and other battery powered applications can now...
