UK facility expanded to meet increasing power supply demand
Designer and manufacturer of power supplies and cable products, Stadium Stontronics, has significantly upgraded its Reading-based facility with the addition of a new dedicated manufacturing cell fully equipped for the production of custom power supplies, a new warehouse space to accommodate an additional 700 pallets of storage, plus a large ESD controlled test facility.
SMD solid-state fuse suitable for harsh applications
An extremely robust SMD fuse has been introduced by SCHURTER. The new High Current Fuse, HCF, has been designed using solid-state/thin-film technology. The HCF is especially suited for use in particularly harsh applications, where the reliable interrupt of high currents is critical. SCHURTER's experience, acquired from the development of solid-state fuses for the space industry, and the cooperation with ESA, have led to the development of the HCF...
Half brick 150W DC/DC converters offer 8:1 input range
A series of 150W half brick DC/DC converters has been announced by XP Power, aimed at a wide range of applications where an ultra-wide input range are required. Conforming to the industry standard half brick footprint of 61.5x57.9x12.7mm (2.40x2.28x0.50"), and having pin out compatibility with existing industry standards, the QSB150 is highly efficient, typically up to 92%.
Flameproof through hole resistors for high power applications
A power metal film through hole resistor designed for high power and pulse power applications has been introduced by Stackpole. The RSPF series is available in power ratings from 1/4 up to 3W with one percent tolerance available. This series offers resistance values from 2.2Ω up to 1MΩ, and the coating is flame proof per UL94V-0.
Rugged transceiver meets IEC Level 4 ESD standard
An enhanced version of the widely accepted LTC2862 ±60V tolerant RS485/RS422 transceiver that was released several years ago has been announced by Analog Devices, which recently acquired Linear Technology, the LTC2862A. Both of these half-duplex transceivers eliminate field failures without the need of costly external protection devices by protecting practical RS485 systems from installation cross-wiring faults, ground voltage faults or li...
Medically-certified DC/DC converter is certified 2MOPP
A new fully medically-certified DC/DC converter has been developed by RECOM, which the company claims to be the first in its class to provide 2MOPP with 250VAC working voltage in a SIP7 package. This compact design offers engineers more freedom to develop their PCB layout, knowing that they will comply with the stringent regulations for medical certifications. It is certainly a challenge to design high performance, space-saving medical devic...
Major project launched to boost electricity generation in UK
In order to enable more electricity generation across the South East of England, UK Power Networks and National Grid are launching an innovative new service. The region has one of the most dynamic electricity networks in Europe. Significant amounts of renewable energy generation, a nuclear power station and interconnecting cables to Europe make management of the electricity flows a complex challenge for the transmission and distribution...
Silent Switcher 2 delivers 93% efficiency at 2MHz
Analog Devices, which recently acquired Linear Technology, has announced the LT8609S, a 2A (3A Peak), 42V input synchronous step-down switching regulator. Its unique Silent Switcher 2 architecture uses two internal input capacitors as well as internal BST and INTVCC capacitors to minimise the area of the hot loops.
DC/DC converters drive high capacitive loads
The REC3A, REC5A and REC6A isolated DC/DC converters from RECOM are now available at Dengrove Electronic Components. They require no external filter components to pass EN 55022 class-A EMI tests. They will also pass the class-B tests for domestic products, with only a small capacitor added.
Programmable DC power supply series delivers 5kW output
The introduction of the TDK-Lambda Genesys+ series of high power density programmable DC power supplies, has been announced. The 5kW, 1U model is the first in the series, utilising Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, these next-gen units provide improved efficiency, performance and functionality over existing products on the market at a competitive cost.
