The untruths being told about domestic battery storage systems
It was announced last week by Business Secretary Greg Clark that the first phase of the Government’s plan to kick start the UK’s nascent battery revolution is a £246m boost to develop expertise in battery technology. If the UK is to take centre stage and become a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of electric batteries then a new generation of energy storage products will be required.
Applications are changing with the times so why aren't batteries?
Human beings are definitely creatures of habit. This is especially the case when it comes to buying consumables like batteries. We know batteries are important but we continue to buy cheap, subpar batteries that run out too quickly and simply cannot handle the heat. Michele Windsor, Global Marketing Manager for battery specialist Ultralife Corporation, explains the demands that three essential applications place on the humble 9V battery...
Two buck regulator reduces EMI and enables high power density
Analog Devices who recently acquired Linear Technology, has announced the LTC7150S, a 20V, 20A monolithic synchronous buck converter with differential VOUT remote sensing. The device’s phase lockable controlled on-time constant frequency current mode architecture eases compensation and is suitable for high step-down ratio applications that operate at high frequencies while demanding fast transient response.
Bus converters deliver 800W at 95.8% efficiency
The DRQ-8/100-L48xx series of quarter brick, intermediate bus converters (IBC) is the latest series from Murata Power Solutions, developed specifically for high-reliability infrastructure equipment applications. The DRQ series is designed to deliver 800W at 55°C to address the high power density requirements for high-reliability networking and telecommunications infrastructure equipment.
Compact connection system distributes high current DC power
Global provider of interconnect systems, Amphenol Industrial Products Group, now offers a versatile connection system that distributes high current DC power in a compact form. Designed to connect wire to wire, wire to board as well as busbar terminations, the Amphe-PD series distributes higher currents with less heat than similar-sized connectors on the market.
Improving power quality in the HVAC and medical sectors
Power quality company, REO UK, has released a whitepaper addressing electrical interference and power quality problems in the food and beverage, HVAC and medical sectors. The whitepaper outlines the issues caused by technological development in each industry, as well as how electrical engineers and plant and facilities managers can mitigate these problems. Many of the electrical problems mentioned in the whitepaper, such as harmonics and power li...
Battery development enhances emergency lighting reliability
Providing OEMs, wholesalers, installers and FM managers with a product that combines advanced battery technology with the latest in emergency lighting components, Tridonic has announced the availability of a brand new, ‘out of the box‘ emergency lighting solution. This is the company‘s first ever stand-alone emergency luminaire and it comes at a time when there is a heightened awareness of the importance of practical emergency l...
AC/DC inverters provide up to 4500VA
Power supply specialist Powersolve announces its PJN series of AC/DC sine wave inverters which provide between 1000VA and 4500VA from a DC input between 40 to 60VDC. They also take 230VAC mains input enabling them to operate in a UPS mode and switch over to 48VDC batteries automatically when the incoming mains fails. This make the PJN Series suitable for telecoms systems that use a 230VAC input supply and 48VDC battery back-up.
Startup eliminates the need for Nvidia GPUs
Brodmann17 is a developer of proprietary deep learning algorithms that increase the overall speed and efficiency in processors while eliminating the need for Graphic Processing Units (GPU). The company develops deep learning technology for some of the world’s leading manufacturers and is able to speed up image processing by 20x: from less than one image per second to real-time on standard CPUs.
Automotive-grade ESD suppressors protect against multiple strikes
Compact AXGD series Xtreme-Guard ESD suppressors by Littelfuse can be used in automotive antennae, RF antenna systems and infotainment. The compact, surface mount, polymer automotive-grade suppressors are capable of protecting sensitive devices from contact/air discharges as high as 30kV.
