MTM Power GmbH has announced its PCMDS60W series of DC/DC converters, specifically designed for applications in rail and vehicle technology, but also for use in industrial and telecomms applications. These primary switched DC/DC converters are available with an output power of 60W and operate according to the push-pull principle with a frequency of approximately 70kHz.

With the help of a transformer and a secondary linear choke, a galvanically isolated output voltage (5.2, 12, 15, 24 or 48V) is produced which is adjusted by pulse-width modulation according to the current mode principle. The converters are available with a wide input range for battery voltages of 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 96 and 110VACC. EN 50 155.

Thanks to flat design, with dimensions of 130x69x30mm, the PCMDS60W series is also suitable for applications where little space is available. They are connected via spring clamps, which meet special requirements in railway applications, regarding vibration resistance and reduced time for wiring.

The converters need no ground load, are maintenance free and short-circuit protected by primary and secondary power limitation. Further features are a mechanically and electrically rugged design using SMD-technology and an automatic piece-by-piece test. They are vacuum potted (EP 1 987 708, U.S. Patent No. 8,821,778 B2), prepared for the use in devices with Protection Class II and have to be mounted on a heat-dissipating surface for cooling.

Without any additional external components the PCMDS60 meet all functional and normative requirements of electronic equipment in railway applications acc. to EN 50 155, EN 50 121-3-2, EN 61 373 Cat. 1, Cl. B. As a plug-and-play solution for sensitive electrical subsystems, the converters can be easily installed and operated in the field.
