Saft Nife ME Ltd, the Middle East subsidiary of the world leader in the design and manufacture of high-technology industrial batteries, is launching its new generation maintenance-free Uptimax battery optimized for stationary power backup applications in the oil & gas, utility and electricity industries. The main advantage of the nickelbased Uptimax is that it now needs no topping up with water throughout a long service life.
/> A key theme for Saft’s stand (8A30) is to show how batteries can make a vital contribution in ensuring reliability and optimized TCO (total cost of ownership) for customers operating in the especially demanding conditions found in the Middle East region. In addition to the new Uptimax, the stand also features Saft’s wide portfolio of advanced battery technologies..

New generation Uptimax offers maintenance-free backup power for stationary applications
Since Saft launched its Uptimax range of nickel-based pocket-plate batteries in 2008 they have established an outstanding reputation for delivering reliability, long life and optimized TCO in stationary power applications - such as UPS, emergency and security systems and process control - in the oil & gas, utility and electricity industries, even when operating at ambient temperatures of +40°C or more. An upgrade to a new generation high-technology design has now taken Uptimax to the next level, making it maintenance free, under recommended operating conditions, in terms of topping up with water.

There is now no requirement to add any water to Uptimax throughout its long service life. Further advantages of the new generation Uptimax include even better chargeability at elevated temperatures, so that well over 90 percent capacity is available after a single 15-hour charge at +40°C. Performance has also been improved by up to 10 percent, according to the relevant discharge time. This enables customers to benefit from using a size of battery more closely optimized to suit their specific application, reducing the initial purchase cost in addition to the substantial savings resulting from the reduced maintenance requirements throughout the life of the battery.

Delivering exceptional service life in demanding telecom infrastructure applications
Saft has developed its Tel.X nickel-based batteries to provide an exceptionally long service life in both wireline and wireless back-up power applications, especially for outdoor plants. The maintenance-free, compact Tel.X design is ideal for advanced telecom infrastructure such as cabinets and end-terminals in fibre-optic ‘triple-play’ networks and cellular base stations and switching nodes that require long periods of autonomy (from 1 to 10 hours).

Efficient energy storage for grid-connected renewable energy schemes

At MEE Saft is focusing on its new ready-to-install containerized solution that provides a complete, fully integrated energy storage system at the megawatt scale comprising Li-ion battery modules, power management and control interfaces, air conditioning and safety devices. The containerized energy storage system is targeted at medium to large scale gridconnected solar and wind power schemes, where the effective implementation of Saft’s stateof- the-art Li-ion technology can smooth the intermittent generation and ramp rates inherent in renewable power sources.
