Maxim has introduced the DS1843 fast sample-and-hold circuit in a 2mm x 2mm microDFN package. This device can capture signals of less than 300ns on its differential inputs and hold them at the output for up to 100microseconds.
A low input offset voltage (~5mV) ensures accurate measurements. The DS1843 includes a differential, high-speed, switched-capacitor input sample stage; offset-nulling circuitry; and an output buffer. Through this integration, the IC saves considerable board space as compared to discrete approaches. The DS1843 is optimized for burst-by-burst RSSI measurement in GPON OLT systems in conjunction with an external sense resistor.

The DS1843 is fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range, and is packaged in a tiny, 2mm x 2mm, 8-pin microDFN. Pricing begins at $0.70 (1000-up, FOB USA).
