Kinetic-powered so that no batteries are required, the hue tap switch has been introduced by Philips. The company believes that it has created a world first: this clever kinetic-powered switch can be controlled via Android and iOS apps to control colours, brightness, functions, and more.

Hue tap is as smart as the hue bulbs it controls, and just as easy to use. For moments when you prefer not to use your smart device to turn the lights on, such as when your phone is charging or the tablet is in use, simply tap! Also, you can extend your app into the physical world by putting your favourite scene creations from the hue app or groups of lights onto the four buttons of hue tap. Simply cycle to the one you want, in an instant.

Hue tap needs no batteries as it operates using kinetic energy - simply through taps from your finger. As a result, it consumes a remarkable zero watts of power and needs no mains power source. Meaning it’s not only smarter, but greener and hassle free.

Filip Jan Depauw, Senior Director, Philips Lighting, commented: “Hue tap is the perfect solution for users who want to control their personal wireless lighting with yet more convenience. It is more than just a modern take on the wall switch - it combines easy-to-use traditional lighting control with the smart, intuitive, fun world of hue.”

Philips hue tap requires the hue bridge found with all starter kits for hue and Friends of hue products. Hue tap is available later in 2014 in North America and Europe at selected retail outlets for $59.95 (USD) or €59.95 (RRP).
