Designed for high-power applications, a WCR (Water-Cooled wirewound Resistor) has been released by Vishay Intertechnology. The WCR tolerates high pulses of up to 5000W for 10s and offers very high power dissipation of up to 2500W at a water inlet temperature of 60°C.

Providing direct liquid cooling without the need for a heat sink, the Vishay MCB device is optimised as a snubber and DC grading resistor for large drives, high voltage inverters, rectifiers and HVDC transmission systems/SVCs. In these applications, the WCR saves space by providing the power of six wirewound resistors or five thick film resistors in one single supply. Moreover, the device offers the possibility of having up to eight resistive functions in the form of one snubber or divider.

The WCR features a resistance range from 4.7 to 56kΩ with a ±5% tolerance, a temperature coefficient of 100ppm/°C and a maximum working voltage to 3500V (6600V is available upon request). The RoHS-compliant device offers a non-inductive option below 250nH and operates over a temperature range of -55 to +120°C.
