Vishay Intertechnology announced a new ESD-protection array featuring low capacitance and leakage current to protect USB-OTG ports against transient voltage signals. The new VBUS053BZ-HNH-G-08 provides three lines of USB ESD protection at a 5.5-V working range, and one line of VBUS protection at a 12-V working range.
The VBUS053BZ-HNH-G-08 is packaged in the leadless LLP1713-9M, with an ultra-low profile of 0.6 mm to minimize the board space required for active ESD protection in high-speed data applications, such as USB 2.0 and HDMI in HDTVs and mobile electronics, including portable gaming systems, MP3 players, and cell phones.

The new device features a low load capacitance of 0.7 pF for the three data lines D+, D-, and ID, and a low maximum leakage current of 0.085 µA at the working voltage of 3.3 V, and 1 µA at 5.5 V. The array provides a low maximum clamping voltage of > 4.1 V for negative transients and < 18 V for positive transients at 3 A for the data lines. For the VBUS line, the VBUS053BZ-HNH-G-08 features a maximum clamping voltage of 30 V at 8 A.

The VBUS053BZ-HNH-G-08 provides transient protection as per IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) at 12 kV (air discharge) and 15 kV (contact discharge), with surge current protection in accordance with IEC 6100-4-5 from 3 A.

The lead (Pb)-free device features a halogen-free molding compound, and is compliant with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC.

Samples of the new USB-OTG bus port protection array are available now. Production quantities will be available in Q1 2010, with lead times of eight to ten weeks for large orders.
