Tiny AVX Inductor offers tolerance as tight as 0.05nH

AVX has released a tight tolerance L0402 LGA inductor based on thin-film technology, providing excellent high frequency performance and rugged construction for reliable automatic assembly. Thin film technology allows for the deposition of low ESR line width structures to the micron and below level. These small structures yield extremely tight tolerance inductors in virtually any value, and as tight as 0.05nH in low value 0402 devices.

Further, Land Grid Array termination styles reduce parasitics and result in higher Q than standard termination style thin-film inductors. In addition, LGA termination technology helps miniature SMT inductors self-align during the assembly process as well as allowing for an inherent low-profile, excellent solderability and improved heat dissipation.

L0402 inductors are available with an inductance range between 0.82 and 6.8nH and tolerance values from ±0.05 to ±0.5nH in frequency ranges from 450 to 2400MHz. Finished parts are 100% tested for electrical parameters and visual characteristics. Each production lot is evaluated on a sample basis for static humidity: 85degC, 85%RH, 160 hours; and endurance: 125degC, IR, 4 hours. Devices are terminated with nickel, lead-free solder coating compatible with automatic soldering technologies such as reflow, wave, soldering, vapour phase and manual.

Applications for this tiny inductor include mobile communications, satellite TV receivers, GPS, vehicle location systems, wireless LANs, filters and matching networks. A Designer Kit is available, Accu-L0402KIT01, which includes 20 pieces each of 12 values, from 0.82 to 6.8nH, with a tolerance range from ±0.05 to ±0.1nH.
