Vishay Intertechnology's PTN series of precision surface-mount thin film chip resistors has been enhanced, now featuring a lower absolute TCR of ±10ppm/°C and tighter tolerances to ±0.05%. Protected by a self-passivated, moisture-resistant tantalum nitride (TaN) resistive film, the devices offer high power ratings to 2W over a wide temperature range of -55 to +155°C.

The resistor's TaN film ensures a moisture resistance level that exceeds MIL-PRF-55342 limits, making the device suitable for use wherever moisture during operation or long-term storage may be a concern, such as in low-noise, high-precision control systems for military, aerospace, telecommunications, and industrial applications.

In addition to power ratings from 50mW to 2W, the PTN series offers low noise of less than -25dB, low voltage coefficients of 0.1ppm/V, and voltage ratings of 75-200V. Offered in 13 case sizes, from 0402 to 2512, the PTN series offers a wide range of resistance values from 10Ω to 3MΩ, with nonstandard values available. The resistors exclude moisture in conditions of +85°C, 85% relative humidity and 10% rated power.

The devices' wraparound terminations feature a high-purity ceramic substrate and an adhesion layer covered with a nickel barrier and solder coating, and contribute resistance of less than 10mΩ. Epoxy-bondable and lead terminations are also available upon request.

The lead- and halogen-free devices conform to Vishay Green standards, and are RoHS-compliant without exemptions. In accordance with the ASTM B809-95 humid vapor test, and MIL-PRF-55342 specification, the resistors are sulfur-resistant, and 100% visually inspected, respectively.

Samples and production quantities of the enhanced PTN series devices are available, with lead times of 8-10 weeks for large orders.
