The widest choice of push pin-mounted heat sinks for cooling BGAs and other hot components is being offered by Advanced Thermal Solutions (ATS), which provides 108,000 possible configurations. The company offers more than 200 heat sinks with push pin mounting. Geometries include straight fin, cross-cut, and ATS maxiFLOW spread fin geometries.

More than 100 fine- pitch heat sinks, which provide effective cooling in high velocity airflows, are available from ATS. The company also offers 100 sinks with coarse-pitch fins and wide fin spacing for low airflow conditions. The full range of heat sinks is sized for cooling components with lengths of 25-70mm.

For secure mounting to PCBs in industry standard locations, all ATS push pin heat sinks feature pre-drilled holes. The sinks are offered in both durable plastic and brass, meeting a variety of application requirements. Plastic pins are light and non-electrically conductive, while metal pins are strong and durability for more rugged applications or thicker devices. All push pins feature flexible barbs that lock securely in PCB holes.

The required forces for firm attachment and effective heat transfer are offered by compression springs on the push pins. To provide the forces needed to optimise heat sink performance on different PCBs, the springs are available in 21 sizes.

To increase heat transfer, the push pin heat sinks are pre-assembled with a phase-change thermal interface material. For application specific requirements, double-sided thermal tape and no TIM options are available.
